First Coast Travel Guide: Beaches, Events & Where to Stay
Everything you need to plan a trip to Northeast Florida and Georgia’s Golden Isles — St. Augustine, Amelia Island, Palm Coast & Flagler Beach, the Jacksonville Beaches and St. Simons Island — written by the local team that manages the homes you’ll stay in.
The First Coast is Northeast Florida’s Atlantic shoreline — from Amelia Island at the Georgia line, through the Jacksonville Beaches and Ponte Vedra, to St. Augustine, Palm Coast and Flagler Beach — named for St. Augustine’s founding in 1565 as the first permanent European settlement in the United States. Casago First Coast manages vacation homes in all of it, plus St. Simons Island in Georgia’s Golden Isles, and this guide is where to start: which destination fits your trip, when to go, which events fill the calendar, and where to stay once you’ve decided.

When to Visit the First Coast
The coast has four distinct booking seasons. Peak season brings the warmest beach weather and the biggest events; shoulder season is the local secret — the ocean is at its warmest in September and October and the crowds are gone.
| Season | Weather | What’s on | Booking tip |
| Peak: March – August | Warm to hot, ocean 70s–80s°F | THE PLAYERS, The Amelia Concours, spring break, Shrimp Festival, Jazz Festival, summer beach weeks | Book 3–6 months ahead; oceanfront and event weeks go first |
| Shoulder: September – November | Warm days, warmest ocean of the year, fewer crowds | Florida-Georgia weekend, RSM Classic, fall festivals, Halloween in St. Augustine | Best value on beachfront homes; watch tropical-weather forecasts |
| Holiday: late November – mid-January | Mild, 60s–70s°F | Nights of Lights (St. Augustine), Dickens on Centre (Amelia Island), holiday weeks | St. Augustine weekends sell out; midweek is easier |
| Winter / snowbird: January – March | Daytime highs mid-60s to mid-70s°F | Monthly stays, golf, quiet beaches, early spring events | 30+ night stays book by October for the best homes |
Events That Fill the Calendar
A handful of signature events drive most of the peak-week demand on the First Coast, and each one has its own travel guide with published dates, logistics, crowd tips and where to stay. Nights of Lights turns St. Augustine into a lantern-lit postcard from late November to mid-January. THE PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach and The Amelia Concours on Amelia Island land in the same March window and push lodging demand from Jacksonville down to Palm Coast. The Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival in Fernandina Beach and the Jacksonville Jazz Festival anchor May; Florida-Georgia weekend fills Jacksonville in late October or early November; and the RSM Classic brings the PGA TOUR to Sea Island and St. Simons in November.
For any of these, the homes closest to the venue book three to six months out. If your dates are fixed, book early; if your dates are flexible, the guides show which nearby neighborhoods and markets give you an easier stay at a better rate.
